Why is she doing this?

Be smart, do the right thing. Feel sorry for your family for thinking the way they do and try your hardest to get a job and help your family. Times might be tough but if you don't stay strong then you WILL go nowhere. Suicide is never a option it will do no good but make things harder for your family. Also, the things your mother said to you might be caused by stress possibly from lack of financial support. Stay strong.
