Does the doctor need to stick that cotton swab down my throat?

i have had a cough all week because theres a lot of mucus in my lungs. i'm going to doctors today to see if i can get any medication for it and find out what it is. i was wondering if the doctor is going to want to do that strep throat test where they stick that long cotton swab down your throat? it really scares me and i don't want to do that LOL. thanks :)
