Do my tonsils need to be removed?

Currently I am sick with a horrible sore throat. I have went to the doctors and the rapid strep test was negative and in still waiting on the cultered strep test. About 2 weeks ago I had a really bad sore throat and now it has returned. I get sore throats a lot and it really effects my attendance in school every year. My mom told me that she wants to speak with my doctor about getting my tonsils removed. I have looked up on google when they remove tonsils and one reason was because of tonsil stones. I have had them before and wondered why I spit them up when I coughed. So do you think my tonsils would get removed if my mom talks to my doctor? Do you think they should be removed? I'm quite nervous about it, as I have never had surgury before.
